Candle Care & FAQ

A well-tended candle is a lasting candle. Follow these guidelines to get the most out of your Maison experience — and if you have a question we haven't answered, reach out to us.

Candle Care
The first burn is the most important. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar before extinguishing — this usually takes 2–4 hours depending on diameter. This prevents "tunnelling," where the candle burns down the centre while leaving unused wax on the sides.
Before each burn, trim your wick to approximately 5mm (¼ inch). A long wick causes a large, sooty flame that burns unevenly and reduces your candle's lifespan. We recommend a wick trimmer, but small scissors work perfectly well.
We recommend burning for no more than 4 hours at a time. Extended burns can cause the wick to mushroom, the jar to overheat, and the fragrance to dissipate too quickly. Give your candle a rest — it'll reward you for it.
This is called "bloom" or "frosting," and it's a completely natural characteristic of soy and coconut wax. It does not affect the scent throw or burn quality — in fact, it's often a sign of a high-quality natural wax. We find it rather beautiful.
Stop burning when approximately 10mm (½ inch) of wax remains. Burning beyond this point can cause the jar to overheat and may damage the surface it rests on. The jar can be cleaned with hot water and repurposed — we encourage it.
Safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials. Always burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Keep away from draughts, which can cause uneven burning and increase fire risk. Never move a burning candle.
Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the molten wax using a wick dipper, then straighten it again. This prevents smoke and hot wax from splattering. Blowing out a candle, while poetic, introduces smoke and can leave the wick submerged in wax.

The Candles
We use a premium blend of natural soy and coconut wax. This blend provides an excellent scent throw, a clean burn, and a beautiful creamy finish. We never use paraffin or synthetic waxes.
All of our fragrance oils are phthalate-free, skin-safe, and formulated to meet IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards. We test every blend for both scent quality and safety before it enters our collection.
Yes. Our soy and coconut wax blend is 100% plant-derived, and our fragrance oils contain no animal-derived ingredients. Our cotton wicks are also fully vegan-friendly.
